Grand Theatre, Llandudno

Just uploading a few more photos from my expedition into the upper reaches of the Grand Theatre (now Broadway Boulevard Nightclub), Llandudno, last year.

Photo shows the view from a Private Box looking across the top of the stage (lower level now in use as a nightclub and boxed in) and proscenium arch. You can see the equivalent Private Box on the other side of the arch, complete with red drapes.

The Theatre originally opened in 1901, closed in 1980 and reopened as a Nightclub in 1987.

Astoria Theatre, Charing Cross Road, London

A view of the auditorium from the stage at the Astoria Theatre's opening in 1927. Note the projection box located beneath the balcony at the rear of the stalls. In the late 1960's, the ceiling was removed and a much plainer ceiling installed. The walls were draped at this time, covering the plaster decorations. All this was removed in the building's final use as a concert venue and nightclub.

Compare this photograph to a view taken January 2008, seven photos back in this series.
